Where to eat:

No one can do romance on an empty stomach. When staying at Bed at the Beck on your Valentine’s trip, you can enjoy fine dining at The Cedar Tree restaurant. On the border of Northumberland and the Lake District, whichever way you turn, you’ll have some of the best hiking trails in the world at your feet. If you’re looking for something close, head 20 minutes down the road into Carlisle to take the stunning trail to Bowness. (There’s also some great pubs on the way too!) See the route plan here.

The Byres

Nestled in the endless hills of the Northumbrian countryside and inside the Northumberland National Park you’ll find The Byres properties. Both cottages are newly converted Northumbrian Stone Byres all decked out with everything home comfort you could need. Get away from the stress and clutter and home and make use of the properties’ open plan kitchen and living spaces.

Where to eat:

Only a five minute drive from your stay, you will find the Fountain Cottage. This cosy cafe will serve you all the home comforts you and your partner desire, and if you’ve brought your furry friend with you, they are also dog friendly too. See more here: https://fountain-cottage.com/

What to do:

Being based in the Northumberland National park also means you are in an International Dark Sky Area. Spend an evening under the stars with your loved one, gazing at the beautiful night sky. Book in to kielder observatory to get a guided tour here: https://kielderobservatory.org/

SHELLBRAES STUDIO

Shellbraes Studio is one of our hidden romantic gems. There’s nothing better than being in a cosy intimate setting with everything you could need at your fingertips surrounded by the flourishing Spring countryside. We aren’t the only ones saying it’s perfect for Valentine’s, here is a recent review left about the studio:

“We loved our stay at the studio, which had everything we required as well as some lovely touches e.g. coffee maker, beautiful bedding & vase of fresh flowers. The space is ideal for a couple looking for some peace and quiet with lovely walks in the area.”

Where to eat:

A glass of wine in hand, good company and tasty food will always mean a Valentine’s well spent. Head into Hexham for an evening meal at Cilantro. The restaurant is a fusion of Indian and latina tapas and (although we’re slightly biassed) is truly delicious. Find out more here: https://www.cilantrotapas.com/menu

What to do:

Staying at Shellbraes Studio also means you’re only a ten minute drive from Hadrian Therapy Spa. Here you can enjoy a series of treatments and relaxation therapies including massages, sauna and hot tub. A day at the spa, before retiring to your beautiful studio for dinner and drinks – we can’t think of anything more romantic!
