Northumberland’s Summer Festivals and Events

Fancy attending a festival without the noisy neighbours, freezing cold tents and dare we even mention the portaloos? 
Thanks to our stunning range of properties across the Northumberland countryside you can do just that and celebrate all day long knowing you can return to a cosy warm bed, hot shower and all the usual home comforts.
But which Northumberland Festival will you be attending this year? Here’s our full list of events not to miss across the region.

Music

Between Woods and Streams

12th – 13th August – West Benridge Farm (near Morpeth)
If you’re a fan of the Futureheads, The Lake Poets or just love hearing new music, then Between Woods and Streams is the perfect festival for you. Highlighting the best of the North’s original music producers, enjoy a day of talented performances within the stunning natural surroundings of the Northumberland countryside.

Allen Valleys Folk Festival

23rd – 25th September 2022 – Locations across Allendale
A three day festival celebrating the best in folk music. Alongside a jam-packed line-up of traditional and modern folk artists, the event also features the historic burning of the legendary Allendale Wolf on the Market Square. One not to be missed!

Corbridge Chamber Music Festival

28th July – 31st July 2022 – St Andrew’s Church and Corbridge Parish Hall
Exhibitions, concerts and live poetry are all on offer at this stunning festival hosted by the registered charity. Plus, in addition to watching all of the talented artists perform, there’s also the chance to take part yourself in the ‘Come and Play’ session for amateur string players.

Mouth of Tyne Festival

8-10th July at Tynemouth Priory and Castle
This event is slightly further afield, but with the range of fantastic artists performing, we thought it was well worth adding to the list. The festival welcomes Keane, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Newton Faulkner amongst others to play under the stars at the iconic Priory and Castle.

Colourful Corbridge

4th June 2022 – noon onwards – Corbridge Market Place and Tower Lane
The very first Colourful Corbridge event will be held this year. Hosted by local independent businesses Vintage at The Tower, Corbridge Larder and Forum books, the event encourages people to dress in their most colourful and extravagant outfits to celebrate with a day of live music, face painting and colourful displays from all the businesses in the town.

A Midsummer’s Evening in Corbridge

23rd June 2022 from 4pm – Corbridge Market Place
Less of a festival and more an independent celebration to support the local businesses of the town, a Midsummer’s Evening in Corbridge is the perfect way to explore one of Northumberland’s most popular tourist towns. Enjoy late night shopping and stalls on the market place, street food vendors, live music and entertainment and a textile and art exhibition.

Hexham Book Festival

10-19 June 2022

Now this really is a Festival that’s right on our doorstep. The Hexham Book Festival is back and will be held at the Queen’s Hall and within a Spiegeltent on the beautiful Hexham Abbey Grounds, just a two minute walk away from our Hexham House apartments. You can expect fun for all the family with talks from famous authors across almost all genres, stand-up comedy and creative activities for the kids running all throughout the week.

Corbridge Craft Fest

23rd – 24th June 2022 – St Andrew’s Church, Corbridge
Celebrating the fantastic talents of the makers in the Corbridge community, the Corbridge Craft Fest allows you to appreciate, browse and even purchase some of your favourite art pieces to take home.

Mighty Dub Fest

17th-19th June 2022 – Alnwick Castle Pastures

You’ll no doubt have seen photographs of the famous VW festival that comes to Alnwick every year. From live main stage acts, cabaret shows and circus entertainment, to petting zoos, magicians and more, enjoy a weekend full of family fun right next to the historic Alnwick Castle.

Northumberland County Show

Friday 3rd June 2022 – Bywell Hall, near Stocksfield

The popular agricultural event is returning after a two year hiatus. Take the kids animal spotting, enjoy live music all day, or perhaps relax at the on-site gin and prosecco bar. There’s plenty to keep the full family entertained and you can also take home a piece of Northumberland with hundreds of local traders and arts and crafts stalls showcasing their products.

Food and Drink

Tynedale Beer and Cider Festival

17th-19th June 2022 – Tynedale Park, Corbridge
Friday 2pm – 11pm,   Saturday Noon – 11pm,    Sunday: Noon – 7:30pm
One of the biggest beer and cider festivals in the region, this is definitely a celebration to mark in your calendars. The festival holds live acts all across the weekend, a whole host of tasty street food trucks and of course all of the best local cask beers and national real ales. But if you’re not a beer drinker, don’t despair, the festival offers something for everyone with a gin and rum bar, a wine prosecco and pimms bar, and a soft drink and refreshment station too.

Battlesteads Beer Festival

21st – 24th July – Battlesteads Hotel and Restaurant
With over 20 beers, ciders and foreign lagers to try, plus a gin and prosecco bar, what’s not to like about Battlesteads Beer Festival. The local hotel and restaurant hosts the three-day event each year with live acts across all days and mouth-watering food on offer too.

Morpeth Food and Drink Festival

1st – 2nd October – Morpeth Market Square
Although this doesn’t typically fall under the ‘Summer Festival’ category, it’s definitely an event to have on your radar. Each year the popular town of Morpeth comes alive with food vendors and traders of all different types of cuisines. From street food, to the Farmer’s Market with live acts running all throughout the day, this is definitely one for the foodies!
