Here at Wooden Star Cottages, we’re continuously working to develop sustainable practices throughout the business so that we can maintain and be kind to the stunning Northumberland landscape around us.
The Steadings and The Byres
While browsing our cottages you may have noticed our key under each listing. On there you’ll see a small leaf which represents our properties that display additional eco-credentials.
The Steadings and the Byres properties, not only are based in the breathtaking Northumberland Park, they are also equipped with solar panel heating, designed to heat each property to the perfect temperature while using 100% clean energy.
In addition to this, the properties have two electric charging points, so there’s no need to worry if you’re bringing an electric vehicle on your trip. At the end of this article, we’ve also listed your nearest charging points to each of our properties, so make sure to charge up and get exploring!
Local Produce
When you choose Wooden Star Cottages for your trip away we love to show you all the amazing businesses and traders that are right on your doorstep.
We work with the fantastic Whickham Cottage Crafts to put together our welcome hampers, stocking only local produce and gift items to support the small traders in our area.
Paperless Booking
A number of years ago, we made a commitment as a business to go completely paperless, which is why we continue to invest in our website and use online booking partners to ensure that our guests have a smooth customer experience while keeping all communication online.

Public Transport
We encourage our guests wherever possible to use the excellent public transport links throughout Northumberland.
Many of our properties are just a short walk away from the nearest bus stop or train station and you can also explore Northumberland using public transport too. Leave the car at home and hop on to the AD122 Hadrian’s Wall Country Bus. This bus takes you right through the history of Hadrian’s Wall and stops at many notable attractions along the way.
