Getting those trainers on and exploring the stunning landscapes and countryside is one of the best ways to experience what the beautiful North East has to offer. Whether you’re looking to balance out holiday treats with some exercise or if you’re a seasoned pro runner, below is a list of routes near our Wooden Star Cottages.
If you’re staying in our Seal Cottage or Hexham House Apartments, you can take advantage of the breathtaking Hexham surroundings including Tyne Green Country Park. This is only a 15 minute walk from your stay and is an ideal spot to run and explore the stunning park grounds.
Or, if you’re a planner and like a route to follow, then this one’s for you. The Whitley Chapel Circular is a very popular route in the Hexham area and only a 10 minute drive from your Hexham stay. This is a circular route and is well known for its picturesque countryside views with part of the trail taking you through the famous Devil’s Water.
Staying in our Twenty Princes Street property means you’ll already be based right at the heart of the beautiful town of Corbridge. Again, you can leave from your door and get joyfully lost in the cobblestone streets. However, if you’re looking to combine a bit of history with your daily exercise, you could try this popular route around Aydon Castle. The route is about 5K long and is just an eight minute drive from your stay at Twenty Princes Street.
Packing your running shoes while staying here means you can get straight out and explore all the glorious Northumberland countryside that’s right on your doorstep. A brilliant route is from the small town of Bellingham to the enchanting Hareshaw Linn Waterfall. This is a very well known and popular walk/trail so we would recommend an early start if you’re looking to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet. This route is a five minute drive from our The Byres,Charlton Gate and The Steadings properties.
Our Bed at the Beck home is truly one for relaxation. You have access to many wonderful areas to explore like Hadrian’s Wall, Lanercost Priory and Brampton Town Centre, but on top of this, you are also only an eight minute drive from the Talkin Tarn Country Park. This is a lovely short route, perfect for a morning jog at only 1.4 miles long and can easily be repeated so that you can get those steps in.
If you have come to stay in our Hollin House, perhaps with a big group of friends and family, taking that time out to go for a run may be the key to getting some peace and quiet! The house is a great base to explore wider Northumberland. Only a seven minute drive away you can reach Greenhaugh where there are many glorious walking and running trails, including a footpath through Greenhaugh Meadows and Boughthill Mill, either side of Tarset Burn. Alternatively, you can also do this circular route around the picturesque village too.
You don’t need to go far at all if you’re looking to get some exercise while on your holidays. Our Shellbraes Farmhouse and Studio are based in 10 acres of the Shellbraes smallholding. Head straight from your door and create your own trail within the properties’ land.
